About SaaS Metrics Calculators
A small collection of SaaS metrics calculators for founders, operators and indie hackers — built to answer a specific question in a few seconds rather than to sell a subscription.
Why this exists
Most SaaS metric calculators online are lead-generation forms. You enter your numbers, you get a partial answer, and then you are asked for an email address to see the rest or to download a “full report”. Others are buried inside a dashboard product that requires an account before it will compute anything.
These calculators do the opposite. Every input is visible, the arithmetic happens in your browser, and the result appears as you type. There is no signup, no email gate, no trial, and no data leaves your machine. Refreshing the page is the only cleanup required.
Who it is for
- Founders preparing an investor update or a board deck who need the standard metrics computed correctly.
- Indie hackers and bootstrappers evaluating whether a customer acquisition channel pays for itself.
- Operators sanity-checking a number that came out of a spreadsheet, before it goes into a report.
- Anyone learning this material who wants to see how each input moves the output in real time.
How the formulas are defined
Every calculator states its formula on the page, and the implementations live in a single shared module so that two calculators can never disagree about the same input. Two conventions are worth stating explicitly because they cause most of the errors people make by hand:
- Gross margin is a percentage. Enter
80for eighty percent, not0.8. The conversion to a fraction happens once, inside the formula. - LTV is built from gross profit, not revenue. This is the definition the widely cited 3x benchmark assumes. Using revenue inflates the result by roughly the inverse of your margin.
Edge cases are handled explicitly rather than papered over. Zero churn means an infinite customer lifetime and an infinite LTV, and we say so instead of substituting an arbitrary large number. A business whose revenue covers its costs has no runway limit, and the runway calculator reports that rather than inventing a deadline.
Where the benchmarks come from
The benchmark tables are drawn from publicly published guidance by venture investors and SaaS analytics firms — Bessemer, OpenView, Social Capital and similar sources — plus the benchmark ranges routinely reproduced in investor updates. They are included to give a sense of what “normal” looks like, not because there is a universal correct value.
Benchmarks differ sharply by segment, contract length and price point, so the honest comparison is always against your own segment and your own trend over the last three months. A blended industry number will flatter a self-serve product and alarm an enterprise one.
How the site is funded
The calculators are free and there is no paid tier. Hosting and maintenance are covered by advertising served through third-party vendors including Google. Ads are placed around the content, never inside a calculator result, and their presence does not affect what the calculators compute.
Details of the cookies and third-party vendors involved are set out in the privacy and cookie policy — including how to opt out of personalised advertising.
What this is not
This is not financial, legal or investment advice, and the results are estimates for planning purposes only. The arithmetic is exact but the inputs are yours, and the benchmark bands are general guidance rather than targets set for your business. If a number here is going to inform a funding round or a hiring decision, check it against your own books before acting on it.
Feedback and corrections
If a formula is wrong, a benchmark is out of date, or something does not work, please say so — the contact page has the details. Corrections to the arithmetic are especially welcome, since the whole point is to be the version you can trust without checking.
